Open day at new crematorium in West Midlands

A newly-built crematorium is issuing an open invitation to people in the communities of South Birmingham, Bromsgrove and North Worcestershire to visit and meet their new neighbours.

Waseley Hills Crematorium is hosting a Community Open Day on Saturday 6 August between 10 am and 3 pm.

Waseley Hills Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, the UK’s largest independent owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries, with 37 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

The open day is an opportunity to visit the crematorium, meet the team working at the site and find out more about the support and exceptional support available to the bereaved.

Site manager Joy Edgington said: “We are very proud of our uniquely-designed facility which blends into its natural surroundings of Waseley Hills.

“Through this open day, we wanted to give our community an opportunity to meet us and find out more about what we do.

“Death is a subject no one wants to think about as losing a loved one comes with grief and sadness. We would like our community to know about the work that we do and how we can help them to remember a loved one.”

On the day, visitors can also take part in a community art project which aims to create a community tree painting, through a partnership with Creative Arts from Bromsgrove.

When the crematorium opened in March, it proudly announced it was one of the most environmentally-friendly facilities of its kind in the country.

The purpose-built chapel building features a distinctive living green wildflower roof and the development of the crematorium has included the enhancement of existing wildlife habitats as well as the creation of new ones.

It offers the perfect blend of state-of-the-art technology with a sympathetic design which blends beautifully into the surrounding rolling hills, hedgerows, pastures and pockets of woodland.

The chapel, which can seat 105 guests but also has significant additional standing room, has a distinctive living green wildflower roof.

The development of Waseley Hills Crematorium also included the enhancement of existing wildlife habitats as well as the creation of new ones.

Joy added: “We have an ethos of being a good neighbour, not only to the communities we serve, but also to wildlife and the environment, as we seek cleaner and greener ways to operate.

“The invitation to attend our open day is extended to everyone in our community who has a curiosity about the type of work that we do.  We look forward to meeting as many people as possible, taking the opportunity to talk about our care, our facilities and our excellent team.”
